Boomer is a great boy!

Boomer is now in his new foster home! He is getting along very well with all the other dogs, both large and small, and with the cats. He loves to chase and play tug with the other pointer mix, and it was good fun playing chase with a visiting small (15lb) dog. He does sometimes get in minor trouble with the other dogs by pestering to play too much, but backs off if they grumble at him.

Boomer is still a young boy with lots of puppy energy and curiosity, but he settles down nicely with a bone or a box full of toys. He is doing a good job of learning what things are his, but like any puppy, he makes the occasional mistake, so he still needs someone to keep an eye on him.

Boomer loves people and is quite the snuggler- He thinks that he is a lap dog! He really likes to follow his new people around and be close to them.

Boomer is quick to learn new things and new routines and was already able to be loose in the radio fence yard in the first week he was here.

He is completely housetrained and knows how to sit, come, and lay down. He needs to work on his leash manners, but does ok on a gentle leader harness. His exuberance at being around people leads him to jump, but he is quickly learning that to get attention he has to sit down.

Today I went for a walk and a run in the forest preserve near my foster family's house. I love to be walked every day, but I can behave myself even if I don't get to go for a walk. I chased butterflies in the sunshine, it was a gorgeous day. I hope my new family will take me for walks in nature, I love all the new smells. I really like finding a trail and following the scent, even if there isnt anything there in the end. Must be the birddog in me. I am always on my best behavior when I am walking or running. I am friendly and gentle with all the passers-by. I love to get pets and attention from everyone we meet, but if my foster mom says "no" and "reels me in" on the leash I know that I have to stay by her side until she tells me "ok". I also learned a new phrase this morning. "get your piggy" means that I am supposed to go get my stuffed toy and play with it by myself for a minute so my foster family can finish up what they are doing before they play with me. I fell like I am getting smarter everyday. Yay go me!

My foster family went on vacation, so i got to stay at a farm in Wisconsin. I had great fun! My new friends at the farm and I ran through the fields underneath a rainbow and i got to wear this neat hunting vest. Made me feel very official, like a real bird dog.
I love my foster family but long to have a family of my own. Somewhere with a lot of room to run and somebody to play with would be a dream come true for me. In the meantime, I'll stick it out here and hope that somebody will come along to adopt me. If you just met me you would know that I have a great personality. I am loving, happy go lucky, and I try real hard to be a good boy. Im smart too, I have a growing vocabulary, that includes:
"dinnertime," "walk," "outside," "sit," "stay/wait," "in your house," "inside," and of course "bony" and many more. And most excitingly, I've just been housebroken! I love walks and runs. I'm very good on the lead, I dont pull hardly at all--have to have tip top manners when youre out walking your people. See, I'm a good boy, I really am. Wont you please help me find a home?

Love me, Love me!!

7/09/08 Boomer is just a happy go lucky guy. He gets along well with the 3 other canines in the house and "points" at the cats but leaves them alone. He is very smart and eager to please his people. He loves to run with the bike and walks well on a lead, too. He'd love a furever home with some room to exercise and lots of love pats.

A New Life!

"Life is like a box of chocolates for me now (even though dogs can't have chocolate) I have something better. After being at the shelter for over a month, I have a foster home with a foster mom, foster brothers and sisters, a big soft bed and a huge yard to play ball in. This foster mom lady feeds me wonderful meals and gives me treats that I have never had before. She calls me Boomer what a good boy all the time so I fetch the ball for her and sit whenever she tells me to. When I sit she rubs my ears and boy do I like that!!

What I would really like is a home of my very own. I like other dogs and would play well with older children but I might be a little rambunctious for very young children. You see I am only about one year old and full of energy. I like to take walks and am learning to walk on the leash. I can't wait to learn to play with no leash. I am very smart and quiet also. I only bark sometimes when I'm really, really happy to see you. Please come back to my blog often to check on my progress and hopefully meet me in person soon."
